Welcome to Clavis International Primary School (CIPS).
Founded in 1991, Clavis has, for over three decades, built a strong reputation as one of Mauritius’ most respected non-profit, English-medium international primary schools. In 1998, we began our journey with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), becoming fully authorised in 2002 as the first school in the region to offer the programme. While the PYP framework has evolved over the years, its philosophy continues to proudly define who we are today.
At the heart of Clavis is a deep belief that people matter most. Strong relationships, trust, and a sense of belonging are the foundations of meaningful learning. Our teaching community brings together a wealth of experience, with many educators having been part of Clavis for several years. They share a commitment to continuous professional growth, a genuine love for teaching, and a firm belief that every child is capable of learning and thriving.
We believe that children learn best when learning is relevant, purposeful, and joyful. Significant learning happens when students feel safe, valued, and connected to their teachers. When educators model curiosity, passion, and enthusiasm, children are far more likely to engage deeply, take ownership of their learning, and develop confidence in themselves as learners.
As an IB PYP school, our approach to teaching and learning is inquiry-led and transdisciplinary, encouraging students to think critically, ask meaningful questions, and make connections between their learning and the real world. As the PYP states, this approach “challenges students to think for themselves and take responsibility for their learning as they explore local and global issues and opportunities in real-life contexts.” Through this framework, we place equal importance on academic learning and the social, emotional, creative, and physical development of each child.
Our focus as a school is strongly centred on humanity and community, alongside the purposeful use of technology. While we recognise the increasing presence of technology in children’s lives, we are mindful of the risks of over-dependence and passive consumption. At Clavis, technology is used intentionally—as a tool to support learning, creativity, collaboration, and inquiry, rather than as an end in itself. Human connection, empathy, and relationships remain at the core of everything we do.
As our school community continues to grow, we are proud to have expanded to our Beau Champ campus, extending the Clavis ethos to the east of the island. Both our campuses share the same values, expectations, and commitment to high-quality international education, ensuring continuity, coherence, and a strong sense of belonging for all families.
We recognise that choosing a school is one of the most important decisions parents make. Entrusting us with your children - your most precious responsibility - is something we take very seriously. Our guiding question is not whether a child is right for Clavis, but whether Clavis is right for your child. Can we support your child’s individual learning journey? Clavis International Primary School’s new Beau Champ Campus opened its doors in January 2025, marking the start of the new academic year. We were thrilled to expand and support the growing needs of students and their families living in this region of the island. The campus initially welcomed students in Pre-Reception (age three as of January 1), Reception (age four as of January 1), and Year 1 (age five as of January 1). In January 2026, we added Year 2, and in January 2027, we will add Year 3, with additional year levels introduced annually.
The Beau Champ Campus is located within the developing Anahita Beau Champ smart city on the east coast of Mauritius. The school is in the charming setting of a sugar cane plantation surrounded by natural and historical features developed for aesthetic sustainability. You can find the location on Google Maps here.
Academic Levels and Class Sizes
Designed with growth in mind, the campus will expand each year by adding a new year level, starting with Year 2 in January 2026. To meet the needs of our growing community, we are also prepared to open an additional class at a year level should there be sufficient interest.At our Beau Champ campus, classes are designed to be cozy and supportive, allowing each child to receive more individual attention. In the first years, class sizes are slightly smaller as we establish our team of specialists and support staff. The maximum number of students is around 15 in Pre-Reception, 18 in Reception, and 22 in Year 1. Each class is led by a dedicated homeroom teacher, supported by a qualified teaching assistant, ensuring every child feels guided and cared for.
Extra-curricular Activities
The Magic Garden ClubThe Magic Garden Club is a fun and engaging after-school activity for children aged 4–8. Through hands-on experiences such as planting seeds, caring for plants, observing growth, and exploring nature, children will learn about how plants grow while developing responsibility, patience, and a love for the environment.
Rhythmic Adventure Children discover a variety of percussion instruments, including traditional ones like the ravanne and maravann, as well as modern instruments such as cajón, bongos, and shakers. Through games, movement, and music-making, children will enjoy creating rhythms whiledeveloping coordination, listening skills, and confidence. A joyful musical experience where learning and fun go hand in hand!
The Creative Drama ClubOur Creative Drama Club is a fun and imaginative after-school activity for children aged 4–8. Through drama games, storytelling, role-play, movement, and creative activities, children develop confidence, communication skills, imagination, creativity, and teamwork. They will also have opportunities to work together, share ideas, and express themselves creatively.
The French ClubOur French Club provides a vibrant and welcoming environment where children experience the joy of learning the language through interactive and creative activities. Each session is thoughtfully designed around their interests, incorporating storytelling, poetry, hands-on projects, singing, and games to make learning both enjoyable and meaningful. By promoting French in an engaging and imaginative way, the club encourages children to build confidence and develop their ability to communicate effectively in French.
Le Bocage International Secondary School
LBIS plans to open in Beau Champ. Although LBIS is independent from Clavis, the schools have a supportive relationship. LBIS plans to accept applications from Year 6 CIPS graduates from Beau Champ, with potential earlier openings based on community need. For specific information about LBIS’s expansion, please contact them directly.
