Message from our Head of School

Welcome to our community!
Clavis International Primary School (CIPS) was founded in 1991 and, for 30 years, continues to enjoy a respected history as one of the most highly regarded non-profit, English-medium private schools in Mauritius. In 1997 the International Baccalaureate introduced the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and CIPS began adopting it the following year, becoming fully authorised in 2002 as the first school in the region to offer it. The framework has greatly evolved since that time, but it is a framework that still proudly defines us today.
We believe that at the heart of all great schools are the people who are a part of it. Our teaching community carry with them a wealth of experience, with the majority of staff having been with CIPS for many years. Our educators have a deep commitment to continuous growth, a genuine love for students and teaching, and a constant belief that all children are capable of learning. We also believe that children need to love what they are doing and understand the relevance of what they are learning to make substantial progress. Furthermore, no significant learning can happen if students do not have a positive relationship with their teachers and feel a connection with them. Children will not care about what they are doing or learning if that same passion and excitement is not modelled by the educators that support and guide them.
Entrusting your children - the most important things in your life - to a school that you hope will collaboratively educate and raise them with you is not an easy decision for parents to make. Our mission is to have a nurturing school that provides learning experiences that will meet the unique needs of our students, focusing beyond not only the academic areas, but to also give important weight to social, emotional, creative, and physical development. As the IB-PYP explains, this is done through an inquiry-led, transdisciplinary framework, that “…challenges students to think for themselves and take responsibility for their learning as they explore local and global issues and opportunities in real-life contexts.” (PYP)
If you have any questions or would like to come for a visit, please get in contact with us. We would love to take the time to help you understand what Clavis has to offer and show you how we can support your child’s learning. It is not about whether or not your child is right for our school, it is about whether or not Clavis can be what is right for your child. Can we support your child to make continuous progress as they mature; can we teach your child with methods for how he or she learns best; and, very importantly, can we provide an environment where your child will be happy and excited to thrive in? These are some of the hopes we have for each student at Clavis.
Educationally yours,
R. Jeffery Hart
